Baldur's Gate: Metagaming Tricks
From Play It Hardcore
There are lots of tips and tricks to maximize your success in Baldur's Gate that a brand new, uninitiated player would be unaware of.
Denaturing Casters
The term "denature" means to remove all the spells in a caster's repertoire by charming him or her and then depleting their spells by casting it at a target and immediately moving the character, before the spell actually fires. This will cause them to cast the spell, removing it from memory, but will cause you no harm. There are many instances you will face wizards that will begin as neutral until they talk to you and afterwards will become hostile. Charm them before they ever get to you, denature them, and slaughter as you see fit.
Donating Money
Temples work as a sort of mafia in the Baldur's Gate series. If you pay them enough money, your reputation will raise by a point. However, it has to be a set amount at the time of donation. For example, to get from reputation 9 to reputation 10, you have to donated 100 gold. Donating 50 gold two times will not give you that increase. A chart with the specific gold requirements is here.
